More higher education institutions in the Excellence Group
The CHE ExcellenceRanking was first published on the pages of ZEIT Online on the 5th of December 2007. In a pre-selection process based on four indicators (number of publications in international journals, citations in relation to the international standard, number of oft-cited authors and number of projects in the EUs Marie Curie research promotion programme), excellent performing Natural Sciences departments were ranked among European HEIs (Excellence Group).
The Excellence Group is larger in the updated version, especially in terms of Biology, as initially some of the most-cited researchers identified had not been transferred correctly into the database. In addition, some HEIs were removed from the list because they do not offer corresponding study programmes even though they carry out outstanding research in the disciplines examined.
The revised version of the CHE working paper 99 Identifying the Best: The CHE Ranking of Excellent European Graduate Programmes in Natural Sciences 2007 has now been published. Detailed results can be found on the Internet.
